Hi MS Fam,

Please help me understand, why in this architecture, VNet2 used for DNS Resolution? I cant understand why the resolution cannot be done within Vnet 1 if the zone is linked to Vnet1?

    @Nolan Lemuel Augustine

    Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thank you for reaching out & I hope you are doing well.

    I understand that you would like to know about the VNET DNS Resolution using Azure Private DNS Zone.

    The diagram does not mean resources from VNET1 is using VNET2 for Resolution,

    • It means VNET2 resources can only use the Private DNS Zone for Resolution
    • While VNET1 is being used for Registration(Auto-Registration) and Resolution both.

    Please note the difference between Auto-Registration and Resolution.

    The diagram shows a simplified version of this scenario with only two virtual networks - A and B. A is defined as a registration virtual network and B is defined as a resolution virtual network. The intent is for both virtual networks to share a common zone contoso.com. When the zone gets created, virtual networks defined as registration will automatically register DNS records for VMs in virtual network (VNETA-VM1 and VNETA-VM2).

    Hope this helps

    Thanks,

    Kapil
