Issue with Capture Time Information Changing When Uploading Photos to OneDrive

When I upload photos to OneDrive, the capture time information within the photo files disappears, and the upload time is recorded as the capture time, causing the files to be sorted incorrectly.

So, the order of the photos is completely messed up.

When I check the EXIF information on my local PC, the capture time is clearly recorded accurately:

Local PC - EXIF parsing
KEY: 306
VALUE: 2024:12:16 10:23:08

I don't understand why this information disappears and gets replaced with the upload time when you upload it to OneDrive.

This is by design. When you upload/download a file from OneDrive online, OneDrive on mobile phone, it will be treated as a new one.

It's recommended to use OneDrive client on Windows, you may copy images and paste them to local OneDrive folder. By this action, OneDrive client preserves the original date of creation.

I understand that it's treated as a new file, but shouldn't the EXIF information be retained as it is? Also, in 'Photos', is it possible to sort and view pictures based on the time they were taken, rather than the time the file was created or modified?

Thanks for your back and sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.

I understand your needs and meaning, but they are currently difficult to implement.

The EXIF meta data is 'date taken', which is not changed by OneDrive.

The current working mechanism of OneDrive is to show the 'Date of created' as the date of upload to OneDrive.

If you click on photos view, the sort by option is not available there, so we are unable to choose options to sort images.
