Downloads from "Downloads" folder appear on desktop and can't be removed

After downgrading from Windows 11 to Windows 10, all files in the "Downloads" folder appeared on the desktop. Even though I clicked "hidden" in the properties of the "Downloads" folder and selected "hidden items" in File Explorer, the downloads no longer appear on the desktop but I can't see them in File Explorer either. Before the issue, only the browsers I use appeared on my desktop and downloads wouldn't appear on it. How can I fix this?
