Excel issues

I have a weird problem with my Excel (currently running newest version of office 365). To make it as easy as possible to explain i'll try to sum it up in bullet points:

  • I currently have several files that when I open them, the "file" portion of the control ribbon is missing, replaced with the windows emblem. I have "home" "insert" "layout" etc etc but I'm missing "File"
  • When I try to save spreadsheets to folders, they are not in excel format (xlsx, xlsm, etc etc) literally they are just blank white files
  • If I open a new workbook in excel, and then open a file in one of my folders, all the sudden I can save correctly and I get the "file" back in the ribbon?

What is the issue? I've ran several repairs on them, and although the temporarily work...if I don't have an empty workbook open...they will revert when trying to save them. I hope this all makes sense

It sounds like you may be experiencing some issues with Excel not displaying the file portion of the control ribbon and not saving spreadsheets correctly. One possible solution is to try opening a new workbook in Excel and then opening the file from your folders. This may allow you to save correctly and get the "file" back in the ribbon. Another possible solution is to check for hidden sheets or disable hardware acceleration. Hi @michael manjarrez

Please go to File > Accounts > Product Information, check the Office version number and update channel.

If you move these files that have this issue to other locations, will this issue persist?

I suggest you open Excel in Safe Mode for a check. Safe mode can help us troubleshoot the possibility of 3rd-party add-ins.

To run Excel in safe mode, please exit Excel, find Excel icon, as start it, press and hold Ctrl until you receive a message that resembles the following:

Excel has detected that you are holding down the Ctrl key. Do you want to start Excel in safe mode?

Select Yes, then open a workbook and have a check.
