Why do I have a hypervisor on my computer even though Im only running Windows 11 home.

I was checking my system information and at the bottom it said "A hypervisor has been detected..." I did a little research and found that this is something that automatically comes with Windows 11 pro. I went into the control panel on the turn windows features on/off section and I did not find hyper-v but I did find virtual machine platform and windows hypervisor platform. To my knowledge the closest thing I have come to installing a VM might be respondus lockdown browser but I had uninstalled it and the message still appeared. Does this have anything to do with spyware, malware or anything like that? I know it sounds a bit paranoid but im not really sure why i would have that feature with normal windows 11. Any help, answers, or assistance would be greatly appreciated thank you.

    Hi Byron,

    Hope you're doing well.

Based on your description, it seems that you have detected a hypervisor on your Windows 11 Pro system. Hypervisors are virtualization technologies that allow multiple operating systems to run on a single physical machine. Windows 11 Pro comes with Hyper-V, which is a hypervisor that allows you to create and manage virtual machines on your computer.

To check if Hyper-V is enabled on your computer, please open "Program and Features". And select Turn Windows features on or off in the left-hand pane.

If you do not see Hyper-V in the list of Windows features, it is possible that it has been removed from your system. However, you mentioned that you found "Virtual Machine Platform" and "Windows Hypervisor Platform" in the Windows Features list. These are related to Hyper-V and may have been installed as part of a Windows update or another software package.

Regarding your concern about spyware or malware, it is unlikely that the hypervisor is related to any malicious software. Hypervisors are legitimate technologies that are used by many organizations and individuals for virtualization purposes. However, if you suspect that your computer has been infected with malware, it is always a good idea to run a full system scan with an up-to-date antivirus program.

    I hope this information helps!

    Best Regards,

    Ian Xue
