We have a third party ASP.NET app, which the vendor has upgraded from .NET Framework 4.0 to .NET Framework 4.7.2. I've searched the web and installing .NET Framework 4.7.2 will require a reboot of the server.

How long should we anticipate this to take? It's currently running on Windows Server 2012 and will likely stay there for the foreseeable future. This will have an impact upon hundreds of people, so we've got to time it when it will have the least impact.

    Hello Falanga, Rod, DOH,

The time it takes to install .NET Framework 4.7.2 can vary depending on several factors, including the speed of your server, the load on the server at the time of installation, and network conditions.

Here are the general steps involved in the installation:

Download the .NET Framework 4.7.2: You can download it from the official Microsoft website. The download time will depend on your internet connection speed.

Run the Installer: Once downloaded, you can run the installer. The installation process involves extracting the files and installing them on your system. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on your system’s specifications.

Reboot the Server: After the installation is complete, a reboot is required. The reboot time can vary, but it’s usually within a few minutes.

Please note that these times are estimates and the actual time may vary. It’s recommended to perform this upgrade during a maintenance window or a time when it will have the least impact on users. Always ensure to backup your data before proceeding with the installation.

    Best Regards,

    Wesley Li
