Concerns with Auto-Archiving Functionality on Office 365 mailbox

Our client with an Office 365 email with E1 license reached their email storage quota. Auto-Archiving was enabled, which gave the storage limit of 100 GB to the mailbox. Again,We enabled the auto-expanding archive for that inbox giving 10 GB extra space totaling 110 GB. However, the user is still receiving the email, "Your archive mailbox is full. 110GB."

Shouldn't the auto-expanding archive feature add additional space to the existing 110GB until it reaches 1.5TB? Kindly advise if I am mistaken in my assumption.

regards

Nish

    Hello Nish,

    Welcome to our forum!

First of all, your understanding of Auto-Expanding Archives feature is correct. After auto-expanding archiving is enabled, the additional storage space is automatically added to the user's archive mailbox until it reaches 1.5 TB storage limit. For more information, you could refer to Enable auto-expanding archiving | Microsoft Learn.

However, as Vasil Michev said, Auto-Expanding Archives is not available for E1 Licenses.User's image

In addition, the user with an Office 365 Email with E1's archive mailbox storage limits is only 50GB.

Therefore, it is recommended that you purchase and assign a qualifying license or delete unnecessary mail to release the storage space.

Auto-expanding is NOT available for E1 licenses. Make sure you purchase and assign a qualifying license first, either the standalone Exchange Online Plan 2 or any SKU that contains it.
