Is this EOP task a cloud-mailbox only feature?

We’ve had pretty good success using the Microsoft cloud EOP for virus/phishing and spam filtering however I noticed that a certain feature has never worked.

That feature is when performing a manual “hard-delete” of the email that slipped by spam filtering (we get quite a few) and landed in a user’s email box (putting us at risk)…. How does the hybrid cloud connector pull the hard-deleted email off of an on-prem mailbox from the EOP cloud?

I’ve even tested this by sending myself an email from my personal account and in EOP performing a hard-delete of it and then manually running the powershell command “Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -identity ******@domain.com” and it still remains in my Outlook inbox….

Hi @Awais Khalid

Is your mailbox hosted in Exchange Online or Exchange on-premises?

To me once the spam message went through EOP and was delivered to the on-premise mailbox, it is not possible for EOP to take further action on it.

You may need to delete the message on Exchange on-premises side.

Below is a documentation which introduces a solution by creating a mail flow rule to move the spam message from inbox to junk folder:

Configure EOP to deliver spam to Junk Email folders in hybrid environments
