Automatic Arc enabled SQL Server Registration failure - Resource not found

In order to protect our Server 2012 R2 Servers, we have connected them to Azure Arc.

4 of those Servers have SQL-Servers installed on them with multiple Instances.

Unfortunately, the SQL Extension gets automatically installed and every instance gets registered as a "SQL Server-Azure Arc". While this itself is not problematic and maybe useful (tbd), two resources disappear and keep firing alerts in Azure Monitor.

All of them usually get registered with "Servername" as Arc enabled VM + SQL Server-Azure Arc + "Servername_InstanceName" as SQL Server but two of them miss the "Servername" as SQL Server-Azure Arc and only have their "Servername_InstanceName" registered - our activity log event alert keeps firing this alert:

"The following event occurred: Microsoft.AzureArcData/sqlServerInstances/write" with the affected resource missing -> Resource not found status 404

The target resource "ServerName" (SQL Server-Azure Arc) has been moved or deleted.

Both only appear as Arc enabled VM, unlike the other two VMs with SQL on it.

As the SQL Arc doesn't interest us at the moment, I have tried to delete the Extension and their Instance from the affected 2 Servers yesterday.

This morning, both automatically installed the SQL Extension again and registered all of their Instances with the same error occuring.

Extension log on Server:

[2024-01-05 09:08:28.160] Starting to execute extension request for extension: Microsoft.AzureData.WindowsAgent.SqlServer with version: 1.1.2526.108

Why is this being installed again after Uninstalling the Extension manually? Is there a way to stop it or to fix the error otherwise?

Not an option: Editing alert scope or processing rule to ignore firing

@Kraus, Artur - Welcome to Microsoft Q&A and thanks for reaching out to us.

There are ways to stop the install or disable it, which are already documented.

The fact that the extension is being reinstalled after you manually uninstall it is unexpected behavior and may indicate an issue with the Azure Arc agent or the extension itself.

    1. Please ensure you are running the latest version of Azure Arc extension.
    2. Check the Azure Arc agent logs on the affected servers to see if there are any errors or warnings related to the SQL extension installation or registration of the SQL instances.

If any of the above doesn't work, please send us an email including the following:
