Why does File History keep stopping?

Greetings,

I tried asking this in Microsoft Answers, but was told to ask here.

File History stops working about once a week. If I go back in and click "Back up now", it will resume, but I don't know for how long. There are no events in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System with "FileHistory-Engine" as the source.

How can I find out why File History keeps stopping?

Thanks,
Shane.

Hi Shane Goodman I want to confirm with you if you mean File History is automatically turned off, without anyone changing the setting? Try to disable 3rd party software including anti-virus software, observe for a while and confirm the situation. It may be affected by 3rd party processes or compatibility problems.

Also, we can try to enable the file history via group policy and registry, then check the result.

    1. Turn off File History under below group policy location, and change the option to Not Configured or Disabled: Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ File History
    2. New a DWORD (32-bit) Value under below registry location, then name the value as “Disabled“ and set the value data to “0“: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory If the Answer is helpful, please click "Accept Answer" and upvote it.
