Hi, I'm looking to create groups so I can add users, and then connect their groups to Azure services to provide users in the groups access. I have hit an issue where I created a parent group as Windows Server AD and a child group as cloud and when I tried to make one a group member I was unable to. Can someone explain to me the difference between Windows Server AD and cloud groups in Azure? What are the benefits of one over the other?

    Hey! Niall Maher

So, the deal with Windows Server AD groups and cloud groups in Azure is that they serve different purposes. Windows Server AD groups are classic groups tied to your on-premises Active Directory. They're used for managing access within your local network. On the other hand, cloud groups in Azure, like those created in Azure AD, are meant for managing access specifically in the cloud,

Now, the catch is that making a Windows Server AD group a member of a cloud group might not work seamlessly because they're distinct entities. For Azure-centric stuff, using Azure AD groups is usually the way to go and I recommend it too. Hope this clears things up a bit!

If this helps kindly accept the answer thanks much.
