How do I avoid a line break with line numbering?

Hi, I am having issues with the line numbering. Whenever I create the first line with a number, the text is directly next to the number. However, when I create a secondary number (1.1 for example), it places the text below the number. I want to avoid this and have all of the lines the same with the text next to the numbering. I have attached a picture to better show what I am talking about. As you can see, 5.2 has "Operation" directly to the right (which is what I want) but 5.2.1 places the text underneath. How do I prevent/fix this? Thanks in advance. Line

It looks like you haven't allowed enough space for the longer number on the second level. (Note how the last decimal point is aligned with the first character of the text) So Word is pushing the text down to the next line, where there is room. Revise the second level of your list style with a larger tab stop and the same amount set in the Text indent at field.
