I am having SO much trouble with microsoft authenticator connecting to my device and I want to remove the requirement from all accounts. I manage a team of older folks who are reluctant to download it and not tech savvy. I consider myself to be fair in figuring out tech and I can't resolve the issues with the app and connecting to multiple accounts. I am tired of the delay in accessing my apps and want to remove it all together. We don't need this much security! The two step phone verification is more than enough.

HERE IS THE REAL WAY TO DISABLE IT:

    1. Sign in as a global adminstrator
    2. Select Admin (or the nine dots then Admin)
    3. Once in the Admin center, go to the bottom of the left list and select "Show All"
    4. Then Select "Identity"
    5. You'll now be in EntraID
    6. Close the Identity tab and you'll see the "Protection" tab below it, expand that.
    7. Select "Authentication Methods"
    8. Choose "Microsoft Authenticator" and Toggle it ON (trust me) then click "save"
    9. Now Toggle it OFF and save again.
    10. Go back to "Authentication Methods" on the left.
    11. Click on "settings"
    12. Find the "System preferred multi-factor authentication" look for "state" and change the box from "microsoft managed" to "disabled"
    13. click save
    14. Go back to the left menu and select "registration campaign"
    15. click "edit" next to settings.
    16. locate "state" (just below) and change "microsoft managed" to "disabled"
    17. click save.
    18. You're done (Give this post a thumbs up and/or contact me for your next project)

To turn off the authenticator requirement on accounts, you can follow these steps: If you are using Office 365 for business, you need to contact your Office 365 global admin to turn off multi-factor authentication for your account 1. The global admin can use the following steps to disable multi-factor authentication for an account: Go to Office 365 Admin Center > Users > Active users > Click More next to +Add a user > Multifactor Authentication setup. Check an account>click Disable under quick steps on the right. If you are not using Office 365 for business, you can manage the Authentication methods policy to disable Microsoft Authenticator for your users 2. Authentication Policy Administrators/Global Administrators can edit this policy to enable or disable Microsoft Authenticator. Alternatively, you can change your two-step verification method and settings by removing the account from the Microsoft Authenticator app. I hope this helps!
