Cant create Azure Automation Account

On a new Azure subscription whenever I try and create an automation account it fails, it doesnt give me many clues as to why?

Same here. Been trying to get it to work for a couple of days. Tried the portal, Azure CLI, Powershell - same result. Made sure the Microsoft.Automation resource provider is registered in my (free) subscription. Added the Automation Contributor role to my user via Subscription->Access Control (IAM) in the portal. Still get "Bad Request. Something went wrong".

How are you trying to create Automation account? Directly in the Azure portal or via PowerShell or CLI or any other approach?

I tried both ways. When I send a request with Postman, I get the error "Something went wrong. Please contact support." I get a warning and I get the same error when opening it from the azure portal. I'm trying to open a ticket, but it doesn't open due to automation, I get the option to ask a question directly to the community.

Not able to find a solution. I'm guessing it is only affecting trial accounts, since otherwise, presumably, more people would be complaining? However if that is the problem, it's odd because the free services blade says "Automation - 500 minutes of job run time" free. I notice the error message does say "Please contact support" but I don't think any support is included in non-paid subscriptions, so I haven't tried that. I was hoping tbgangav-MSFT might be able to help, but I don't seem to be able to tag him in these comments. I notice the question 1493073 created by Abdullah has a response from AnuragSingh-MSFT saying the problem may be related to using names for the resource group / automation account which are internally reserved by Azure, but I don't think that is the problem.

Can confirm that this issue isn't limited to trial accounts - I upgraded to a pay as you go account and retried the process but still getting the same error as before

Hi, Can you check if you have the Azure Automation resource provider registered for the subscription? You can find it under Subscription - Resource Providers - Search for Azure.Automation

I have emailed AzCommunity@microsoft.com over a week ago with no response and this error is still persisting. Do you have an update on progress or an ETA on when this will be fixed?

It is not a general issue for everyone. I can create new automation accounts without issues. You should raise a support case for any production impact issue to get the engineers to look into it.

Hi @Stephen Ridgway , Karl Harbour , Abdullah ÇELEBİ , Wellington Adilson Dorado , Caelan Macdonald , Tripti Samajder This issue is now fixed and enabled. Azure for student and Free subscription users can create automation account in East US , East US2, West US, North Europe, South East Asia and Japan West regions.
