Is it possible to remove a SQL license from a installed VM in Azure

a VM has been installed in the Azure portal with an SQL license image also. Now I want to remove the SQL license only not the whole VM and I want to reduce the cost by removing the SQL license. But I need the OS VM also. Now I can upgrade the SQL license. I need to remove the SQL license without removing the whole VM.
