Dear,

During the install of the Rapid7 agent through the Azure console at VM extension i continuously get a failure message 'Error codeResourceDeploymentFailure MessageThe resource write operation failed to complete successfully, because it reached terminal provisioning state 'Failed'.

It also seem to link/notify about the MSI installation failure.

When i manually install it on the server, it works perfectly.

Could you help me understand what this can cause?

Thanks in advance

    Hi @Easi SOC
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A platform.

The error message you received indicates that the resource deployment failed to be completed successfully. This could be due to a few reasons, such as incorrect configuration settings, insufficient permissions, or network connectivity issues.

One cause of the issue could be that the MSI installation failed due to a conflict with another application or service running on the VM. When you manually install the agent, you may have been able to resolve any conflicts or issues that were preventing the installation from being completed successfully.

To troubleshoot the issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check the Azure portal for any error messages or logs related to the deployment failure. This may provide more information about the cause of the issue.
    2. Verify that the configuration settings for the VM extension are correct. Make sure that you have specified the correct MSI package and installation parameters.
    3. Check the permissions for the VM and ensure that the user account used to deploy the VM extension has sufficient permissions to install software on the VM.
    4. Verify that the network connectivity between the Azure portal and the VM is working correctly. Check that the VM is able to connect to the internet and that any firewalls or security groups are configured correctly.
    5. Try deploying the VM extension again and monitor the deployment progress to see if any errors or issues occur.

If you are still unable to resolve the issue, you can try contacting Microsoft support for further assistance.
