Windows Server licensing

Kamil 0 Reputation points

I currently have three servers in the organization. Two of them will serve as hosts for VM, the third will only serve as data backup. The servers serving as hosts for VM will each run about 4 Windows Server VMs, for a total of 8 VMs. What licenses should I have so that everything will be fully activated correctly. Will standard 16 core type licenses suffice?

    Hi @Kamil

If you are using hyper-v to host your virtual machines you can choose Datacenter version to be able to activate unlimited guest VMs as mentioned in the following link : Locks and Limits If you choose standard version on hyper-v host , you have to buy 4 additional standard licence to be able to activate your 8 VMs.
