UK South capacity for Standard_D8s_v3

A few months back there were severe capacity constraints that meant a Standard_D8s_v3 VM we use as a build server did not start up automatically on some days and experienced allocation failures. As a result, we disabled the auto-shutdown/startup we had in place to reduce costs when the server was not needed outside office hours.

I'm trying to work out whether I'm better off moving that VM to another region where capacity is less likely to be an issue, or whether it's safe to reinstate auto-startup/shutdown.

Please could someone help me understand how to make that choice? I can't seem to find any information about Azure VM capacity in UK South and have no way to know if we'll continue to experience allocation failures if we reinstate auto-shutdown.

Thanks.

    Hi @Phil Marland ,

Thanks for the question. You will not be able to see the host Azure VM capacity in a region. That being said I have a few options for you.

Option 1: You could write your deployment script to attempt to deploy your build server in UK South in the morning, if it fails due to capacity constraints your script would attempt to build it in a backup region. This is what I would do if I were you.

Option 2: You could open a ticket with support to inquire about getting a form of reserved capacity.

    Hope this helps!
