SCCM DP - New Server

So overnight, the server team apparently built a new server and move the hard drive from the old server to the new server with the new server getting the same name as the old. These hard drives contained the sccm info. I found this out by looking at the Red X on my Distribution Point Manager. I'm guessing what needs to happen is that I need to remove the DP and Site Server Role from SCCM for the old server, reboot SCCM, and then recreate a DP and distribute everything to the new server. If there is a quicker way, I would be open to hearing it.

Thank you!

I ended up deleting the distribution point role and site server role and rebooting the primary. I recreated the DP role and it seems to have picked up a lot of the prior content in the location it was in. The end goal was to have everything on a new drive so I guess I will use the Content Library Transfer Tool tonight to do that. I did have everything I needed distributed going to the All DP Group so as soon as I added the new DP to this group things quickly distributed. And yes - I was furious that this happened as there is a Windows 10 rollout going on at the DP location so that was delayed a few times as I finished this up. There was a fun GPO that was not modified that kept removing the primary site server from the local admin group as well. Good times.

Thank you both for your replies. Sometimes you just need to here someone tell you what you already know.

When you say moved HDs, did they move the OS too or just the data drives?

So yesterday I had a Server 2008R2 that was configured as a DP. It had a C:\ , E: and F:\ drive. They apparently built a new Server 2019 and moved the E:\ and F:\ drives to the new server. The sms Content library and sms_dp$ were on the E:\ drive. I am assuming that I need to remove the DP and Site Server Role (which now has the same name and IP Address as the old server) from the SMS console for the server in question, reboot the sccm server, and then recreate the DP from scratch - redistributiing everything to it.

Unless I am mistaken, this is the only option at this point, correct?

Hey @Jason Sandys I forget if you remove and add the DP role again does it use the existing content library (aka content doesn't need to be distributed again)?
