After Windows upgraded itself, I now receive repeated user account control windows asking if I wish to allow rundll32 to make changes to my computer. Regardless of answering yes or no, within 5 minutes the window reappears. Help!? RunDLL error loop

I scanned with Defender and ScanNow. ScanNow identified corrupt areas on the disk and corrected them, but not the RunDLL32 loop. My next step is to perform a clean boot, but I wanted to offer more detail regarding the popup loop.

    Hi Laerilee,

Thanks for your post. Rundll32.exe is a crucial part of Microsoft Windows that’s made to launch functionality based in Windows DLL (dynamic linked library) files. For example if you’re using a Windows app that needs a DLL rundll32.exe will make it possible for that app to use the DLL it needs to operate. A Windows DLL library contains code that can be used by more than one program at a time on Windows, so if you disable rundll32.exe then it’s possible you could cause many parts of Windows, and many Windows apps to be unable to function. If the Rundll32.exe window keeps poping up, please try the following method to evaluate risks.

    Method 1:

I would also suggest you run a virus scan using Windows Defender and check to see if there is any risk and if it persists.

    Method 2:

You may also run System File Checker (SFC) scan on the computer which will replace the missing or corrupt files & check if the issue persists.

    a) Type cmd in start search box. Right click on cmd in the Program list and then select the option Run as administrator.

    b) Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

    c) Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow

    Method 3:

You can try performing clean boot and check if the issue still persists to view how to perform the clean boot click on the link and follow the KB article steps.
