Windows 10 1909 Ent. conflict with "Remote Desktop USB hub" - how to resolve?

After a long, painful process of elimination I realize that I have some sort of conflict with the device called "Remote Desktop USB Hub" in Windows 10.

We deploy Windows 10 build 1909 Enterprise using Configuration Manager OSD. On one particular laptop model I noticed that after the build completes and the computer is rebooted, I hear the Windows sound indicating that a device was removed (as if I unplugged a USB device). When that happens, my external monitor will briefly turn-off and then turn back on after about 3 seconds. This happens about every minute for 30 minutes and then stops.

I have found that if I go into Device Manager under "System Devices", if I disable and then uninstall the device "Remote Desktop USB hub" and then reboot the system, the symptom will go away. However, Windows automatically reinstalls the device (Remote Desktop USB hub) and then after another reboot the symptom returns.

I don't think that I need Remote Desktop USB hub on the device, my USB devices work fine after I disable/remove it. I would like to know how to permanently disable/uninstall it so that it doesn't get reinstalled. Alternatively, how can I find out what's conflicting with it? I have already tried updating drivers and firmware using Lenovo System Update and applied Windows patches, there was no change to the symptom after I did those tasks. I also tried running an update to Windows 10 build 20H1 to see if that would fix it but it did not. Our company image is 1909 so I would really like to get it working on that build.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
FP

    Hi,
1.Did you check the hotfix history installed in this windows 1909? Sometimes patch the machines into latest will help address some unknow problems.

2.Kindly test below steps as workaround:

    • Disable the "Remote Desktop USB Hub" (tsusbhub.sys) from Device Manager
    • Enable the following setting: (Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection\Do not allow supported Plug and Play device redirection)
    • Enable the following setting: (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Device Installation\Device Installation Restrictions\Prevent installation of removable devices)

Please note: Users will still be able to use removable devices that have already been connected and installed prior to enabling the group policy.

Hope this helps and please help to accept as Answer if the response is useful.

    Thanks,
    Jenny

    Thanks for your reply Jenny.

I tried enabling the two policies you specified after I disabled and uninstalled Remote Desktop USB hub in Device Manager. It didn't work, the symptom did not change. After a reboot I can see Remote Desktop USB hub listed again in Device Manager and in properties it says "This device is working properly". I also see a notification bubble that says a reboot is required to finish setting up Remote Desktop USB hub.

I have patched Windows 10 1909 current with October patches. I also compared the driver version for Remote Desktop USB hub with another model that is not having the problem and they match, version 10.0.18362.592 dated 6/21/2006.

    Hi Elroy,

Thanks for the update and sorry that the changes did not help.

Since then, it is suggested to capture some more logs and traces like procomon to check what service or process triggered the re--installation of device.

You may find phone number for your region accordingly from the link below:
