New SharePoint Site and Created Additional Group -

Hello there, I created a new SharePoint site and then created a new group to restrict privileges. Under ' Site Permissions' I have selected 'Advanced Permission Settings', I have then have created a new group. Once created, I selected 'Make Default Group' under 'Settings' User's image

I see the new group listed with the other default groups for the site. User's image

However, when I go to the site to apply this group to folders and files, it is not listed. Only the original (default) groups are listed. Am I missing a step? Thank you!

    What does "go to the site to apply this group to folders and files" refer to?

    If you want to grant a SharePoint group with permissions for folders and files, you need to go to Manage access page, then grant access manually.
