I have encountered a scenario when upgrading from SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 to MECM 2303; Setup is requesting to that Desktop Analytics get removed from the Site configuration before the installation can continue.

The environment consists of a CAS with two (2) Primaries. Aside from Desktop Analytics the PreReq checker also warns of other deprecated tools such as:

  • Upgrade Readiness (UR) cloud service connector
  • Microsoft Operations Management Suite (OMS) Connector
  • cloud management gateway (CMG) as a cloud service (classic)
  • Microsoft Store for Business

The error message (from ConfigMgrPrereq.log) for Desktop Analytics is as follows:

Desktop Analytics is retired; Error; Desktop Analytics is retired as of November 30, 2022. To continue the upgrade, remove the Desktop Analytics service from Administration > Cloud Services > Azure Services.

Point of interest:

  • This environment never had Desktop Analytics installed/Configured or integrated with SCCM 2012 R2 SP1.
  • This is the same case for the other connectors/components as well.
  • When looking at the ConfigMgrPrereq.log file the Database tables/views referred doesn't even exist in the first place and the SQL queries that Setup runs "fails to execute" due to this.

Based on this article "Upgrade to Current Branch" this scenario is still a valid upgrade path to follow. So it is rather confusing why these errors are popping up in the first place and preventing Setup to start the upgrade experience.

The question is: Why are these warnings and failures coming up on an environment that never even had these components/connectors and if an older version of Configuration Manager baseline media will not present these errors?

    Hi,

Starting in April 2022, this feature of Configuration Manager is deprecated. The baseline media for version 2203 is the last version of Configuration Manager current branch that will support upgrade from any version of System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.

Current branch version 2303 media will only support new installs of current branch.
