Resources for Manually Adding Comm Port

I need to communicate with a device over serial using Putty. On an older PC, it was as simple as using a USB-serial cable and choosing an available comm port. This process is not working on a new ThinkPad T14s running Win 10. My next step was to manually add a new comm port in device manager. I've tried to configure resources to the port using many of the basic configurations. For the configurations I've tested, I get a code 12 error. Within the resources tab it's stated that there are no conflicting devices, so I don't know which device to disable to free up resources. The existing comm ports are Serial over Bluetooth and intel active management technology - SOL (COMM3). Assuming I'm on the right path... how do I determine the correct resources for the new hardware comm port? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
