I am trying to finish setting up the Azure migrate discovery appliance and I am getting validation failed, originally I thought it was due to the key file but that doesnt seem to be the case.

The server I am trying to asses is Linux.

The validation failed shows the following reason:

  • The operation returned an invalid BIOS GUID for the server: xxxxxxx

I did run the following command in the instance bash and it did return the BIOS GUID

sudo dmidecode -s system-uuid

I also ran a test using putty to make sure the port 22 was open on the instance in order to connect and I am unsure on what the next step is.

Hello @Juan Mesa Sierra Thank you for reaching out to us on Microsoft Q&A platform. Happy to help!

Based on the details provided, I understand that you are trying to set up the Azure migrate discovery appliance but if failed validation. We use remote SSH commands from appliance to run commands. So, first thing, you need to check if you can ssh to the target VM which you wanted to discover from appliance.

Further more, try these two options: you can use option 1 (Sudo account) or option 2 (set cap). Refer to the guidance here - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/migrate/tutorial-discover-physical#prepare-linux-server
