In Microsoft Outlook for Microsoft 365 MSO our company stores thousands of contacts that are organized by categories. We have sync'd these contacts to SharePoint Online via the contact app, to allow sharing of these contacts throughout our company. The syncing of contacts between Outlook and SharePoint works well, however, we noticed that categories are not syncing to SharePoint. We would like to keep the continuity of managing categories throughout our company.
It may be important to note that in our Outlook contacts, a given contact may have more than one category (1:M). Is it possible to add categories to the SharePoint contact list (app) and have it sync with those in the Outlook contact?

    Hi,

Dis you find a solution for this issue ?

I have the same problem. We have a contact sharepoint list that exst from years and that was maintened by a user that had created categories to organize these contacts and since years we conenct this list in our Outlook (M365 version now). In Outlook we can see these categories that are noted "mising" from master category list) but these categories are not visible in SharePoint ? Also, we are trying to access thses categories via Microsoft Graph API and if we can get every contact we can't find these categories in the accessed fields ?

So we are looking for a solution since weeks now and we do not find any solution ? However, if Outlook can display these categories it meens that they are related to this sharepoint list and stored in the tenant somewhere ?

    If someone can help us.

    Thanks in advance.

    Here are steps for you:

1.Go to the contact list -> List Settings -> Add from existing site columns in Columns section -> Select “Categories” column and remember to add the column into the view.

2.Connect this contact list to your Outlook, then sync these contacts from outlook into the contact list.

3.The contact list syncs contacts with categories field.
