Greetings All,

I'm trying to create a Trailer for my UWP app to upload to the Windows Store. To do this I've used the Xbox Game Bar to capture a video of my app in action. I feel that at this point I should say that I have no previous experience of video capture - this is a 'first time' for me.

Having read the manual and tried it out, I produced an MP4 video of my app in action but, according to its property details it has a frame height of 844 and a frame width of 1024. Now, the documentation states that: "The video resolution must be 1920 x 1080 pixels". My screen only has a screen resolution of 1600 x 1200 (it is a pretty old PC).

So, my question is this: Is there any way of converting my MP4 file to the required resolution?

If I've missed anything obvious, please feel free to let me know.

anonymous user-ashcroft Your question is that you don't know how to record a video with the required resolution. My suggestion is that you might found another device that meets the requirement.

By the way, the question of how can you create a video with the required resolution is not a supported topic in Microsoft Q&A. You might need to ask about this in other video related forum.

many thanks for your reply. Regarding your suggestion, I don't have another device to record the video on. I should have thought that the Xbox Game bar would have allowed me to specify the resolution of the captured video. Surely it can't be beyond Microsoft's ability to scale the video up or down to meet its own video trailer requirements can it?

Also, if Microsoft documents the requirements for video trailers for its app store then I don't see why creating a video adhering to those requirements is not a supported topic in Microsoft Q&A.

anonymous user-ashcroft Microsoft Store has the requirements for video resolution but Store does not have requirements about how you create that video. You have to find your own way to create a video that meets the requirement. Based on your scenario, the Xbox game bar could not create a video on your device that meets the requirement. So you need to find another device or you might look for other ways.

many thanks for your reply. You state that "the Store does not have requirements about how you create that video" but Microsoft does supply the Xbox Game Bar which can be used to create the video. However, the Xbox Game Bar doesn't let the user specify the resolution. Surely, it can't be that difficult for it to scale the video to a value specified by the user. I've seen that there are a number of different video converters available - some free and online. Although I haven't yet tried any of these out yet the ones I've looked at do seem to allow the user to specify the resolution of the video - if they can do it why can't Microsoft?

anonymous user-ashcroft The record function of Xbox Game Bar provides is just a convenient way to create videos. It is not a professional tool that could create videos and edit videos. You need to find your own way to change the video resolution, This is out of the scope of Microsoft Q&A.

Hi RoyLi,

the Xbox Game Bar does provide significant facilities for creating video captures, which is all I needed for creating a trailer for the Store. The only thing missing, as far as I was concerned, was specifying the resolution of the resulting video - I didn't require a video editing suite. It seems such a small oversight. I now have to find a suitable video converter program to accomplish what I thought would be a fairly simple thing.

As to whether asking this question is outside the scope of Microsoft Q&A, I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Where else could I have found out an answer, even if the answer was that Microsoft didn't have a solution?
