How to fix Visual Studio profile name displaying incorrectly.

Visual Studio displays my name wrong when I press on my initials at the top of the screen. When I click on "account settings", to try and change it, it has the right name. Confusing and not a giant deal but still annoying and would like to get fixed. Any ideas?

Can you clarify what is wrong? Are you talking about the initials in the image being correct but the tooltip that pops up when you hover over it is wrong? When you click your profile it shows your name and email address correct?

It may just be a caching problem. I would recommend that you sign out and then sign back into VS. If that doesn't work then go to the Account Settings and change your name to something else. Save the changes and then go back and change the name back. Sign out and back into VS.

If that still doesn't work then the next step would be to wipe your local identity cache.

Yes, but when I click on the initials and there's a popup with adding another account it is still incorrect. Yet when i click on account settings to change the name it displays the right one.

This displays the wrong name and so does hovering over the initials.

The clearing identify cache sounds promising but I'm not sure what I'd have to do.

Here's the steps but note it'll wipe all your logins so you'll need to set them back up. It is up to you to decide if the UX is that important.

Close VS

Delete the directory %userprofile%\AppData\Local.IdentityService

Restart VS and sign back in

Tried it, and it did sign me out of VS but upon signing back in the name was still incorrect.

Did you use the account settings to change your profile name to something else and confirm VS updated and then set it back to what it should be?

If so, please click on “Account settings” > Manage Visual Studio profile > it will open browser > Edit profile > edit the “Full name” into right name > Save changes.

It will display the right name now.

I've tried this a couple of times yet it makes no difference. It just applies the correct name to the website but not my IDE.

Hello, are you using the latest version of Visual Studi? If not, please update it with Visual Studio Installer. Or try to repair your VS. Then, run the VS as administrator and check that the profile name displays properly.
