Audio connectivity issues in Teams

When I join a Microsoft Teams meeting I join with my speakers and microphone connected as my AirPods. It is listed as the chosen option under the device settings in Teams for both. When I attempt to talk or click the mute/unmute Teams freezes and says (Not Responding) up on the top of the window. It then will not allow me to continue, and the meeting participants cannot hear me. I can hear them still but the window is compromised. The only thing I can do is force the program to shut down and try again. It does not always work the first time retrying, sometimes it takes several tries. This happens almost every time when trying to use external microphone/audio devices. It just happened at a different workstation too. I have tried being wirelessly connected to the internet and being physically connected via LAN. It doesn't seem to make a difference. Currently using the NEW Teams, and already tried uninstalling and re-installing it. Just hoping for some Teams troubleshooting tips since I haven't noticed the issue with other apps.
