Sharepoint Document library - Cannot edit/update folder properties via the MS API

I am trying to create a folder in Sharepoint, via the MS API, than update the folder properties. I don't have a problem creating the folder but can't figure out how to add the properties. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
