Hi there,

We have multiple people in the organization that are receiving error messages 24 hours after they send an email that it has been returned. A few notes:

  • It has happened for several staff members.
  • The domain names of the emails that are returned vary.
  • We are sending other emails successfully.
  • We have previously emailed these addresses and it worked properly.

The error message we receive is:

Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:
Your message couldn't be delivered. Despite repeated attempts to contact the recipient's email system it didn't respond.> Contact the recipient by some other means (by phone, for example) and ask them to tell their email admin that it appears that their email system isn't accepting connection requests from your email system. Give them the error details shown below. It's likely that the recipient's email admin is the only one who can fix this problem.

For more information and tips to fix this issue see this article: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=389361. Any insight? I know it says we need to contact them, which we have done. Multiple people said they are accepting emails from other sources.

Thanks!

    Hi @Lacey Denton ,

I know it says we need to contact them, which we have done. Multiple people said they are accepting emails from other sources.

Being able to accept email from other sources doesn't necessarily mean it's not an issue on their end. After all, your users also have no issue sending mails to others.

With that being said, are you using Exchange Online in your organization? If so, run a message trace in Exchange Admin Center to get more details about the problematic mail. It might help determine whether it's an issue on your end or the recipients' end.
