Hi
We are about to kick off a migration to SharePoint online.
I have been planning to split some sites into more site collections but starting to doubt that decision.

For an on-prem site collection, it is way too big but do I really need to worry on SharePoint online about site collection size?
Would make my life allot easier if i don't have to split the sites into site collections.

2 of the Site Collections as an example as it is on the on-prem environment:

Site Collection A - 483Gb (Made up out of 11 sites where the biggest one is 270Gb)
I was planning to split too between 7 - 11 site collections

Site Collection B - 152Gb (Made up of 3 sites with the biggest being 70Gb)
Was planning to split into 3 Site Collection but if I don't need to it will be easier for the end-users.

How do you approach these on SharePoint Online?

Thanks in advance. (:

    Hi @DanieClaassen-8722,

In SharePoint Online, your storage space is determined by the plan you purchase. You can check how much storage space your plan has and the size of the content needed to be migrated. Then decide whether you need to purchase more storage. Please refer to this article for more information about the limitations and this article for information about adding storage.
As you are planning a migration, it is chance for you to reconsider your tenant architecture.
In fact, it is recommended that do not run multiple instances at a time when migrating is in process, and you can try to perform the pilot migration. This should use an incremental migration method, in which migration happens in the background with no user impact, followed by a cutover event in which SharePoint Server team sites are disabled and they are directed to use the SharePoint environment. This method is preferred as it reduces user impact.

If the tool you are using is SPMT, you can execute the plan according to the official document. If you are using a third-party tool, it is recommended that you seek guidance from the provider.

    Thanks for that.
If I read those articles it looks like the old best practice limits on Site Collections is something of the past as long as you stay within the 25Tb.

    Thanks

    Thanks
    Should not need help.
Makes my life lots easier now since I can then just migrate a 450Gb site collection as is to SPO and also easier for the users.
