Hello, I'm trying Microsoft 365 backup preview (see Overview of Microsoft 365 Backup (Preview) - Microsoft Syntex | Microsoft Learn) for backing up SharePoint sites. When I'm creating the SharePoint backup policy, there is a button that allows to choose the sites that needs to be backed up. When I click on this button I get a list of SharePoint sites but those are only SharePoint team sites. The SharePoint site that I want to backup is a "Team Site (classic experience)" and does not appear in the list. Can someone tell me if this is a bug or if this kind of SharePoint site cannot be backed up using Microsoft 365 backup? Thanks Olivier

When diving into Microsoft 365's backup for SharePoint, you might hit a snag if a classic SharePoint site isn't popping up for backup. This hiccup could seem like a glitch or a gap in the backup tool's scope. Microsoft 365 backup should ideally embrace a wide array of SharePoint sites, yet sometimes, specific site types like the classic ones might slip through the net in the user interface. In case you're stuck because your go-to classic site isn't showing up in the backup selections, a smart move involves manually adding the site's URL to a CSV file to nudge the backup policy into recognizing it. This workaround can help bridge the gap when the interface falls short. Yet, if tweaking CSVs feels like a roundabout way to ensure comprehensive backups, pivoting to a third-party backup solution could smooth out the process. Solutions like nakivo are tailored to seamlessly back up Microsoft 365 content, including all types of SharePoint sites, bypassing the quirks of manual adjustments. These tools are built for broader compatibility and ease, offering peace of mind that every piece of your SharePoint estate is duly backed up.

For me it is not working. When I try to add the URL of my "Team Site (classic experience)" and upload the file, it says "CSV file contains invalid site URL.". Is there someone of Microsoft with a valid explanation ?

When a SharePoint site is missing from your Microsoft 365 backup list, try these steps to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Permissions: Ensure the backup account has necessary site collection administrator permissions.
    2. Review Site Discovery: Confirm your backup software is set to correctly discover and list all SharePoint sites.
    3. Verify Site Status: Make sure the SharePoint site is active and not archived or deleted.
    4. API Connections: Check that the API used by your backup tool isn't facing limitations that prevent site discovery.
    5. Update Software: Ensure your backup software is up to date to avoid bugs that might hide certain sites.
    6. Check for Filters: Look for any filters in your backup settings that might be excluding the site.
    7. Manual Addition: If possible, manually add the site's URL to your backup list.
    8. Seek Support: Consult the backup software's support documents or contact their support team for help.

These steps should help you pinpoint and correct why the SharePoint site is missing from your backup configuration.
