Use App-V to Run Application Externally from Already installed Old VM

Hello: Setup: I have a Windows 10 32-bit Hyper-V VM running on a Windows 11 computer. This is to run an old application that we do not have the installation software for anymore. Question: Since we only need this one app on this VM, can I turn the application into a virtual app on the host Windows 11 computer (executable from a desktop shortcut)? If so, how? Otherwise, we have to run the full Hyper-V VM OS. I believe App-V can be used for this, but I can't find how. Thank You

That would depend on the app (e.g. this would not work if the app is 16-bit). Have you considered trying App Compatibility Toolkit (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/win7appqual/application-compatibility-toolkit--act-)? App-V would require even more complex setup than you currently have - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/application-management/app-v/appv-supported-configurations

This is a 32-bit app, that originally ran on Windows 7 (virtualized, then upgraded to Win 10)...

The App Compatibility Tool Kit appears to be for those applications directly installed on a system. I am working with a Win10 VM (with the program installed on it).. on a Windows 11 Host system. I would like to run the VM based program from a short cut on the host desktop, bypassing the need to log into the VM. I don't see a guide on how to do this.

As you have tried all possible things from your end and you are still facing the issue, this issue needs deeper investigation and I would recommend you to open a azure support case. Support team will be able to check and help on this.

If you don't have a support plan enabled on your subscription, I request you to send an email to AzCommunity@Microsoft.com with Subject as "Attn:Vikas" referencing this thread along with your subscription ID. I can then enable your subscription with a one-time free technical support.
