SCCM database drive ran out of space

Hi,

I have one drive with 300GB for SCCM database, and it looks like it will run out of space soon.
The problem is that my SCCM database only has 90GB, and when I check the drive property, it shows that I only have 16GB left.
How do I find out what files took the rest of space? I have checked the option to show hidden files/folders, but still couldn't see what took the space. TIA.

Potentially... first, are you using the ECM backup task, or using SQL backup alone? (we use sql backup alone, fyi) If you are using the ECM backup task; that's ok; but you might be encountering vssadmin allocation issues.

If you haven't ever looked at / managed your volume shadow service allocations (vssadmin). https://www.anoopcnair.com/configuration-manager-sccm-backup-uses-the-volume-shadow-copy-service-vss/

That bit me once about 12 years ago; had to really examine vssadmin list shadowsstorage, and do some adjustments.

That might be what is "taking up space"; when you can't easily "see what is taking up space" when looking just at normal / visible files on that drive. the VSS might be legitimately taking up space; you may want to check if that is the space hog. if it is, it's a relatively easy fix; you just have to plan out where you want your shadowstorage to be (instead of the drive with your database files on it).

Do you have a Reporting Point on this server? then make sure that it is not set to full recovery mode. https://www.enhansoft.com/never-leave-your-sql-server-database-in-full-recovery-model-without-a-backup/

System Volume Information folder, when I google that; says it's likely Volume Shadow Service; have you examined the vssadmin list shadowstorage yet?

We won't be able to tell you exactly what your settings "should" be. It is your server, your database, and your drive volumes. Only you can tell what drive volume letters you have ; and which ones could be used for VSS.
