I noticed Microsoft official article What's New in Data Deduplication states:

Also your provided link Install and enable Data Deduplication shows it is a feature on Windows Server version rather than Windows 10 client system.

So I am afraid it is not available to enable it on Windows 10 2004 with official measure.

Well, it did not get resolved as the package I am looking for is not available in Windows 10, Thanks for your help @Joy Qiao

I will keep looking until Microsoft Provides one in Windows 10 too. Its a must have and awaited feature

Hello there!

While the deduplication feature is only officially available in Windows Server, Server 2019 is essentially windows 10 with optimizations for a more server orientated workflow.

That being said, one can get the packages required to activate the feature on Windows 10 and use DISM to add them to an online install.
Bear in mind though that it will not be officially supported by Microsoft.

Usually when Windows 10 gets updated we have to wait for the corresponding server update to occur to Server 2019 in order to be able to extract the needed feature files.
I myself am running the deduplication feature on my Windows 2004 build machine and have turned off automatic updates to prevent it from automatically updating and disabling the feature.

Hi,
Did you see any stability issues with using dedup in Windows 10? I'm on Windows 10 1803 and got updates blocked. But my machine randomly bluscreens stating issue occured with dedup.sys.

Just wanted to touch base on this (well over a year since the last comment, and multiple years since any real change]...

With data sizes expanding (my LAPTOP has 192GB of RAM and 8TB of NVMe) - block level deduplication is no longer "a server need"; it is critical at the client level.

Based on one preliminary set of tests I did [copying files to a server environment to get an appropriate sample, and then comparing the deduplication results - there is approximately an 8x duplication rate (again, this is highly content specific)....

Depending on your use case, you may consider hard-linking the duplicate files. It will provide considerable savings, although there are some risks with it.

@Roman Shein NOT talking duplicate files... Duplicate BLOCKS. Create two identical VHD files. Now modify a small amount of content in each VHD.... 99.5% of the blocks are identical, but the files are not.

We have not heard Microsoft has released such package named as Dedupe. After I searched on Internet and found a Dedupe for Windows 10 1607 which is related with third party website to download and developed. However for Dedupe package for Windows 10 2004, I didn't found it. As the policy on this forum, not allow to provide third party developed software from uncertain website by us, so we just suggest to search by yourself or wait for other customers reply.

Thanks for your Response.

I am looking to Enable Deduplication For One of My Drives in My Machine. It used to work on Windows 8 as some Packages from Server 2012 were available which could be used in Windows 8.

This helped me to Save Lot of Data on Drive without running out of space as The Data was very well deduped

Since I upgraded to Windows 10 2004, I did not see any packages for it, Its been a couple of years so I wondered if its provided as a feature in Windows 10 now.
