What is Happening?

  • When "dark" data is displayed on my screen (like a chrome tab with a website that uses a dark theme), with W11 HDR mode turned on, sometimes the screen display black lines interleaved with actual image. Switching the tab returns the display to normal. Monitor model: Samsung Odyssey 49" DQHD, Série G9, 240Hz, 1Ms, HDMI + DP, G-sync, Freesync - Lc49g95tsslxzd

Not sure if anyone ever found a fix for this but I have and I regularly forget it when I reset my system and have to stumble upon the fix. To correct the issue Assuming Windows 11 here 10. Go to display settings then go to HDR, Open a page or image where the issue occurs so you can see it in real time. Change the SDR content brightness untill the issue is resolved. Higher will fix it. However lower can as well you just have to find the sweet spot.

In my case on my Odyssey G9 50 seems to be the threshold where flickering and subtle lines start happening when switching between HDR\Non-HDR Content.

Hello Thank you for providing the details about your monitor and the issue you’re facing with HDR mode on Windows 11. Horizontal lines appearing when HDR is enabled can be frustrating, but let’s troubleshoot this together.   Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:   Check Monitor Compatibility: Ensure that your Samsung Odyssey G9 monitor is compatible with Windows 11 and HDR. It’s essential to have a monitor that supports HDR to avoid display issues. Verify that your monitor drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause compatibility problems.   Reset Graphics Driver: If you’re unable to right-click due to the lines, try using the keyboard shortcut: Win + Ctrl + Shift + B. This combination resets the graphics driver and might help resolve the issue. If the problem persists, consider contacting Samsung support or checking their website for any specific updates related to your monitor model.   HDR Calibration: Windows 11 has an HDR Calibration app that allows you to adjust HDR settings. You can use it to fine-tune the display for optimal HDR performance. Open the Windows HDR Calibration app, follow the instructions, and calibrate the darkness of your screen.   Check Windows HD Color Settings: Open Settings>System>Display. Under the Windows HD Color section, ensure that Play HDR games and apps is turned on.   Update Graphics Drivers: Uninstall your current display driver using a tool like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). Reboot your system. Make sure your Device Manager shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Run Windows updates and install the latest display driver.   Toggle HDR On/Off: Go to Start>Settings>System>Display. Choose the monitor you want to adjust. Toggle the switch next to Use HDR to turn HDR on or off.
