License Activation Concerns: Windows Reinstall and Siemens NX Software

Dear Microsoft Support, I have recently purchased a Siemens NX License which is currently locked to my machine. However, my machine is experiencing issues that necessitate a Windows (Windows 10) reinstall. My concern is that the license is tied/nodelocked to the MAC ID and Current Hostname, with a software called "getcid.exe" generating a Composite ID using these details. In the event of a Windows reinstallation, will my hostname change? And if so, is there a way to retain the same hostname? Additionally, will my MAC address remain the same after the reinstallation? As someone with limited technical knowledge, I am seeking assistance to ensure that I can continue using the software without interruption, considering the significant investment I have made. Your guidance in resolving this concern would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support. Best regards, Raj

Hello In the event of a Windows reinstallation:   Hostname: The hostname of your machine can change after a clean install. However, you can manually set it back to its original name. You can do this by going to Settings --> System --> About and clicking on Rename this PC. Please note that if you’re using a Microsoft account, you might need to turn off all options in Accounts -> Windows Backup -> Remember My Preferences before changing the computer name.   MAC Address: The MAC address is tied to the hardware, specifically the network interface card (NIC), and not the software. So, reinstalling Windows should not change the MAC address. It’s set in hardware at the time of manufacture.   Please remember to backup any important data before reinstalling Windows. If you’re concerned about the Siemens NX License, it might be a good idea to contact Siemens support for their recommendations on preserving the license during a system reinstall. They might have specific procedures or tools to help with this process.
