Hi,
Is it possible to add environment variables to the client app of an Azure Static Web App (not functions)?
I can only find docs on how to add variables to the functions/api-part.
I understand that I can add environment variables in github-action, but it would be really nice to be able to add them directly in the azure portal interface.

Just to highlight, the Azure Portal allows users to set environment variables for the functions. Today the only environment variables that are relevant to the client app are those used during build.
Could you please clarity more on your requirement, are you attempting to set environment variables to be used during the build time but set through the Azure Portal? Just clarifying to better understand, on why you aren't taking the route of adding environment variables to the GitHub action, are they secrets?

So for example, I'm using env. variables for storing config options for the @msal-browser library (AD B2C authentication).
I don't like to put them in my source code (or in the gh-action file). At the moment I'm using them as secrets in github. But the thing with secrets in github is that they are not visible once you have saved them so I cant tell what secret I put there.
It's not as seamless as setting the variables in the Azure Portal, where you can edit the config.I don't know if I explained it well but it would be so much smoother if you could set configs for clientapps in the Azure Portal.

I like to create json obj and store in azure Keyvault then use @Microsoft.KeyVault(SecretUri=) on Config of func... (this is where we keep AZB2C AppId's and all other sensitive info) Perhaps 1 small func to return the keyvault to web app.

I'd checked with our product team, this is still under discussion, as app settings can contain secrets, there are security implications if we were to make them available to GitHub Action. This scenario is currently not supported. Our product engineering team is working on adding support for bringing your own authentication (in this case AD B2C) and it will use the app settings that can be configured via the Azure Portal. The scenario is expected to be enabled once we get closer to GA, but we do not have an ETA to share on this yet.
