Hi, We are planning to migrate one of our clients Active Directory from Server 2012 to Server 2022 Standard. Required configuration and GP settings have now been completed. Can you please guide us on Azure AD Sync settings? Currently, they have a sync running between Azure AD and old Domain Controller. Our approach was,

  1. Create a new connector from Server 2022 Standard new environment to Azure AD.
  2. Create new user account in new AD at a time.
  3. Once the account is synced, download the mailbox from Exchange. Delete the old account from old AD.
  4. Merge the downloaded mailbox into newly created/synced account. We know that this approach is time consuming, but found that it is working. Is there a recommended method, opposed to mailbox approach? Could we just transfer the existing relationship to the new one? Thanks and regards, Hans

Hi Hans, Thanks for your question here on Q&A.

To start as I read: "Can you please guide us on Azure AD Sync settings" - do you so refer to the migration of the settings for Azure AD Connect (Renamed to Entra ID Connect) or?

    Ref.: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/hybrid/connect/how-to-connect-import-export-config

Just to be sure in your question :)

Regarding #4 - is there an On-Prem Exchange Server?

Let me hear from you :)
