Get Personalization in Azure AI Search?

When I search online for information about how to add personalization to a Azure AI Search service I only get information about the retired "Personalization" service. It does not say what is replacing it.
How to add Personalization to a new search index I am creating now with the newest version of AI Search?

Are you referring to Personalizer in Azure AI services ? If yes Personalizer, has been retired and it is clearly called in the documentation as below.

"Starting on the 20th of September, 2023 you won’t be able to create new Personalizer resources. The Personalizer service is being retired on the 1st of October, 2026."

If you are looking any other or if my understanding is wrong.

Could you please share more insights what exactly you are looking for.

what you are trying to achieve using Azure AI Search?

Your scenarios what is the current results vs expected results you are looking for to understand and assist you better on this.

Yes, I m referring to that retired service. What is replacing it?

I want to add personalization to my search results. Based on the users profile and what other users with similar profiles has search for and used.
In other words, I want to score the search results not only on relevance of the search term, but also on the users profile. To boost search results (give them higher score) if those results are more relevant to the users previous search history or profile.

I am thinking of using Implicit Collaborate Filtering, or something similar. Or maybe there are some AI service in Azure now that can do something like that?

I can implement the personalization outside the Search Service, with a custom post-processing step of the search results. But if I could do it within the search service, that would be best.

@Vilhelm Heiberg In general any personalization would have to be done outside Azure AI Search like the pre filtering before you fire a search query API or post results.

Any specific details you have though on the use-case. Is it based on customer profile data, usage details etc. What kind of personalization are they looking for.

I want to make a recommendation engine.
Give boost (higher search score) to items that are more relevant to the users profile.
Not only what this user explicitly likes but also implicitly based on what other users with similar profiles likes.
One way to achieve this is to use implicit collaborate filtering.
I would imagine this is a common use case. Does Azure have any way to achieve this?

The orchestration will have to be done from the application end, but the search service will let you do this through scoring profiles: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/search/index-add-scoring-profiles

Exactly how can I use scoring profile to get granular personalization?
How about a Custom Cognitive Skill? Will that do the trick, too? How?

A scoring profile is criteria for boosting a search score based on parameters that you provide. For example, you might want matches found in a "tags" field to be more relevant than the same match found in "descriptions". Criteria can be a weighted field (such as the "tags" example) or a function.

Scoring profiles are defined in a search index and invoked on non-vector fields in query requests. You can create multiple profiles and then modify query logic to choose which one is used.

There are more specific discussions in this video here on scoring profile which might be helpful.Could you share some more insights about Custom Cognitive skills which you are referring too.
