I have read more times that changing a laptops password outside of a domain is a problem but for us it is for several users a problem. Several users get the error: domain not available. What we do: take the laptop home and before the password for the on-premise domain expires do a ctrl-alt-del and then change password. When some users do that they get an error domain unavailable and the password is not change. But for many users it goes well. They do ctrl-alt-del and change the password on the laptop, then start the url for the sort of vpn connection and change that password also to make the same, then the password on the domain and on the laptop are synchroon and there are no problems, but like i said: several users on laptops get the error, is this a setting?

OIt is an on-premise domain controller.

    Hi,

Based on my understanding , teh laptops connect to domain through VPN, and when the password near to expire , you want the users change it , but some users can't do this due to the error :domain unavailable .
Try the following way provided by Candy:

If there are any updates for the issue, please feel free to let us know.
    Best Regards,
