Is there a method to block users from downloading free apps from the Microsoft Store without utilizing whitelist features? Our system requires essential software downloads from Microsoft, and we seek a solution that allows us to restrict free app downloads while still permitting access to necessary software. Any insights or alternative approaches would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

Yes, there are a few methods to restrict users from downloading free apps from the Microsoft Store without utilizing whitelist features. Here are some options:

Registry Editor: You can disable user access to the Microsoft Store by modifying the Windows Registry. Here’s how:

    - Run regedit.exe (as administrator)

    - Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore

    - If the WindowsStore key isn't there, you'll need to create it

    - Create a new DWORD value called RemoveWindowsStore and change the value to 1

    - Restart your computer for the changes to take effect

Please note that editing the registry can have serious effects on your system if done incorrectly. Always back up your registry before making changes.

Settings Menu: You can restrict app downloads to only those from the Microsoft Store. Here’s how:

    - Press the Windows key + I to open Settings

    - Select Apps from the left pane

    - Click Apps & Features

    - Open the drop-down menu next to Choose where to get apps and select The Microsoft Store only (Recommended)

Third-Party Software: There are third-party applications available that can prevent users from installing apps. One such application is Install-block.
