How do I set up Authenticator on a new phone without a backup or access to the old device?

I just changed to a new phone, but the app is no longer displaying codes on the new device and the "begin recovery" option isn't working. I am not sure whether iCloud backup was properly set up on the old device (which I no longer have access to), or if the problem is that I wasn't signed out of the account on the old device when it was erased.

I have tried to remove and re-add my account, but it asks for an authentication code from the app itself. I can't seem to use any of the account recovery options as I don't have a passkey, and everything else asks for an authenticator code

    Hello Georgina

    When it comes to account recovery/identity verification, the process is a bit rigid on purpose for security reasons and there's little anyone at support could do to help.

    If you have the authenticator App set to your account and you don't have access any more to the device to authenticate, you have the option to recover your account credentials on your new device with the steps in the link however make sure you don't have a personal Microsoft account already set up in the authenticator app;

    1. Click on the link and in the search you could put in account issues
    2. Scroll down and you should see the option contact support or sign in to contact support
    3. you can sign in with a different email
    4. for product select microsoft 365 and office and category select manage profile information
    5. you should see the option Chat with a support agent in your web browser
    6. confirm your email and it should take you to a support agent where you can provide your number and request a call back on continue via chat.
