Hi everyone!

I'm planning migrate Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 according to the following link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/mailbox-migration/how-it-all-works-in-the-backend. However, there is no detail on how to migrate Google Groups. Can they be migrated?

Thanks!!

Fernando

There is no official method to migrate Google groups to M365. And according to the official document you mentioned, we could only migrate the followings:

    • Mail & Rules
    • Calendar
    • Contacts

Based on my experience, the easiest way to import distribution groups in bulk is to create distribution groups in bulk and then add members in bulk.
You can refer to this article for action: https://blog.jijitechnologies.com/add-members-to-distribution-group-by-csv-using-powershell

    I will suggest you 2 methods :

    1. Manual Migration:
    • Export and Import: You can manually export your Google Groups data (including member emails, conversations, and attachments) using Google Takeout. Then, you can import the data into a similar structure within Microsoft 365, such as: Distribution Lists: For basic email distribution within your organization.
Microsoft 365 Groups: For collaboration features like shared files, calendars, and chat alongside email.

    • Limitations: This method can be time-consuming and tedious for large groups and complex data structures.
    1. Cloud Migration Tools:
    • Many migration tools available specialize in migrating data between cloud platforms, including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. These tools often offer automated migration processes that can significantly reduce the manual effort involved.
    • Examples : CloudFuze , Multi-cloud , Gs Richcopy 360 , Cloudsfer and ShareGate
    • Benefits: Faster and more efficient migration compared to manual methods. May offer additional features like filtering, data mapping, and progress tracking.
    • Limitations: Incur additional costs depending on the chosen tool and its features. Requires careful research and selection of a reputable and secure tool.
