Hi,
I created a namespace and I have two namespace servers. I noticed that replication is automatically happening between these two namespace servers but I havent yet configured a replication group. Does replication occur automatically without a replication group? In which case what is a replication group for?

In short, no. You have to have DFS-R to replicate.
I can only assume that somehow you ended up enabling it. You should be able to verify this by using DFS-R Management Console.

I definitely did not configure one.
Have you used the DFS-R Management console to verify that there is actually a replication group? If so, you inadvertently created one.
You can simply delete it if that's not your intention.

I used the management console to create the namespace and add the extra name server. I did not 'inadvertently' create a replication group.
I understand they are not meant to replicate without a replication group but I saw what I saw. Just add it to the mystery bucket.
Fair enough ;). However I assume that you verified that the replication group actually did exist in this case. You must have a replication group for replication to work.
