1.

I’ve added MySQL ODBC Connector to my pc. (8.0.33 x64).

2.

I’m now trying to use the Microsoft Query Tool by taking the following steps:-

3.

Open a new blank EXCEL Workbook then:-

Data tab

Get & Transform Data group

Click on the drop down arrow to the right of:-

Get

Data

 - then hover the mouse over:-

From Other Sources

 - then click on:-

From Microsoft Query

 - to open the window called:-

Choose Data Source

4.

In the window called:-

Choose Data Source

 - are the following options:-

<New Data Source>

dBASE Files*

Excel Files*

MS Access Database*

However I was also expecting to see an option called:-

MySQL Server*

 - but it’s not there possibly because I haven’t set things up correctly.

5.

How do I get:-

MySQL Server*

 - to appear in the window called:-

Choose Data Source

 - so that I can use the Microsoft Query Tool to make SQL Queries to a database?

Thanks in advance for any replies. (I’ll probably reply to any answers that I might receive in the next few days).

Apologies if I’ve posted in the wrong forum; perhaps somebody could please redirect me if that’s the case?

    Hi,

I suggest you refer to this support article:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-query/connectors/mysql-database

Follow these steps and check if it will help you to create the connection for MySQL.

Hello Emi; thanks for the reply but it doesn't get me any further forward.

I really need, if possible please, full step by step instructions as to exactly how to achieve my objective.

Old MS Query is a 32 bit application and can only utilize 32 bit data provider; have you installed the 32 bit MySQL ODBC driver?

Hello Olaf; thanks for the reply. As I said here:-

I’ve added MySQL ODBC Connector to my pc. (8.0.33 x64)

    • I installed the 64 bit version so from what you say I'll have to go back and re-do what I've done thus far. I hope to have the time to do this sometime this week. I'll come back and update this issue when I've finished that process.

     Hello Olaf.

I believe I’ve done what you suggested (see image below) but I’m still left with the same problem: Microsoft Query Tool - MySQL Server doesn’t appear in the Choose Data Source window. I suspect that I’m still doing something wrong but don’t know what.

Thanks in advance for any replies that I might get (I won’t be able to answer those until sometime next week).
