How to perform a full system restore on a windows 2019 server running on a virtual machine (Hyper-V)?

Using the windows server backup (wbadmin), how can I perform a full system restore on this virtual machine. I have backups saved to an external hard drive. So how exactly can I do this? I want the entire system of the virtual machine reverted back to a previous state. I am aware Hyper-V has checkpoints I can revert to, but there are no recent checkpoints made, and I need more recent version of the system.

    Thanks for your reply. Runs a recovery operation based on the parameters that you specify.

    To perform a recovery using this command, you must be a member of the Backup Operators group or the Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate permissions. In addition, you must run wbadmin from an elevated command prompt, by right-clicking Command Prompt, and then selecting Run as administrator.
