Hello,

I try to figure out tools and ways to do proper consolidation in Windows Server 2012r2. The only tool I can think of is so called MAP Toolkit. This offers "server consolidation" option, when you input data and it will calculate for you how many hosts you will need plus cpu, ram etc usage. You can run report39397-server-consolidation-and-virtualization.pdf . What else is available out there?

    Hi @InfoTechdude ,

As far as I know the MAP toolkit is the only available tool from Microsoft, there are plenty of other tools but they are third-party tools and may have a cost.
For further questions related to the MAP toolkit, I suggest asking over at the dedicated forum over here:

    Hi,
To better utilize MAP report, please check the Getting Started instructions from below link and per my knowledge, MAP is tool for product assessment and provide report for users to consult when starting IT infrastructure planning:

    • Migration Planning
    • Consolidation/Virtualization
    • Private/Public Cloud Planning
    • Software Usage Tracking

Therefore, you shall check if any roles installed for the servers ready for consolidation and consult more details for the specific requirements depending on the role differences. (just like the video you attached is discussing on consolidation for server with File service.)
