Hi,

in order to scale an active Synapse SQL pool by changing the DWU value could I accomplish this task with the SQL pool up or do I need to pause it?

Thanks

    Hi @pmscorca

Thank you for reaching out to the community forum with your query.

In addition to the above answer, you can change the DWU value of an active Synapse SQL pool without pausing it. Changing the DWU does not require the SQL pool to be paused or stopped. To change the DWU value you can follow the below: User's image

However, changing the DWU may cause some disruption to running queries and may affect the performance of the SQL pool during the scaling operation. It is recommended to schedule the scaling operation during a maintenance window or during a period of low usage to minimize the impact on running queries.

When you change the DWU for an active Synapse SQL pool, the change is applied immediately, and the SQL pool is available for use during the scaling operation. However, it may take several minutes for the new DWU value to be fully applied and for the SQL pool to reach its new performance level.

Note that changing the DWU for an active Synapse SQL pool may also affect the cost of the SQL pool. You will be charged based on the new DWU value and the amount of time that the SQL pool is running at that DWU value.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you any further queries.

The SQL Pool needs to in active state for it to be upgraded or downgraded
